How to close my N26 account?
Thinking about closing your account? Here’s what to know.
You can also cancel your premium account and downgrade to the free N26 Standard account instead.
Before you start
Repay any outstanding loans
Please make sure any outstanding loan is fully repaid before closing your account. This helps avoid the debt being sent to a collections agency, which may result in:
- A negative impact on your credit rating
- Additional recovery fees
- Limited access to some financial services
By continuing with closing your account, you end your agreement with us, including any loan agreement. Any remaining loan or debt must be repaid immediately and in full once your main account is closed.

Cancel your premium membership
Before closing your account, please cancel your premium membership first. (new tab) If your plan is still active, closing your account may delay any potential refunds.
Cancel your N26 SIM plan
- Cancel your SIM plan before closing your account.
- Your phone number will be deactivated once the account is closed.
- To keep your number, request a number transfer from your new provider within 90 days after your SIM plan ends.
- Travel eSIMs can only be used while your N26 account is open. After your account is closed, they will no longer work.
- Your account can only be closed once any outstanding invoice is paid.
Sell your investments positions, Crypto, or PEA
- Crypto: Sell all your assets before closing your account. A remaining balance of up to €1.00 is fine, we’ll take care of it during closure.
- Stocks and ETFs: Sell your assets or transfer your portfolio to another platform. To transfer your portfolio to another broker, please contact our Customer Support (new tab) via chat.
- PEA (Plan épargne en action - France only): Close your PEA by selling your assets and withdrawing all your cash from it. To transfer your PEA to another bank, please contact our Customer Support (new tab)via chat.
After you sell your investments, settlement can take up to 5 business days. Once the funds have settled in your main account, you can come back to continue with closure.
Close or move money out of your accounts
Make sure all your Freelancer, Business, Joint, or Instant Savings accounts have a €0 balance. You can view them under the Finances tab, then follow the closure steps in the app or WebApp.
Bring all your balances to 0€
- Ensure your main account, Spaces, and Instant Savings all have a €0 balance.
- Transfer remaining funds or top up if your balance is negative.
How to request account closure
Once all balances are €0 and there’s no remaining loans or active products:
- Click here (new tab) to start the closure
- Follow the instructions to make sure everything is sorted out
- Wait for the notification from us that we have received your request.

What happens after I request account closure
- Hang in there - closing your account might take a bit. Closing an account takes a little time while we double-check everything. We’ll send you a final confirmation email the moment it’s official!
- Your access to the N26 app is limited. You can still log in to download your statements and documents, but your cards are now deactivated and you won’t be able to move money in or out of the app.
- There might be potential refunds. If you had a premium account, you may get a partial refund of your last membership fee. We'll let you know!
- Where should we send your remaining balance? To pay out any leftover funds, we need an alternative bank account within the SEPA zone. If you didn’t provide a SEPA IBAN during your closure request, please contact support within 3 days. If we don’t hear from you, we’ll move your funds to a holding account. You can still request them back later, but this will require extra identity checks to comply with EU regulations.
- Repay your negative balance within 7 days. You can repay any negative balance or outstanding loans directly to N26 within 7 days of your account closure date. To do so, please use the following bank details:
- Recipient: N26 Bank SE
- IBAN: DE90 1001 1001 2953 5758 32
- Reference: Your Full Name and Date of Birth
Important: If the balance isn't settled within 7 days of your closure date, the debt may be transferred to a collection agency. This can lead to additional fees and affect your credit score. We're here to help you avoid that!
6. We’ll send you an official confirmation email as soon as your account is fully closed.
Since your account is closed, you no longer have access to the N26 app. In order to exercise your rights related to your personal data as outlined in our Privacy Policy, or to request any documents, please follow the process described in this Support Center article (new tab).
If you only want to close a secondary account
- Open the N26 app and select the account
- Access the settings via the gear icon
- Choose Empty and delete account
- Transfer remaining funds to your N26 main or another bank account.
If you can’t log in
Send an email to support@n26.com from the email linked to your account, attaching a manual signed cancellation form (new tab) with:
- A request to close your account (with a specific date or “as soon as possible”)
- Your full legal name
- Your N26 IBAN
- The IBAN of another SEPA account for possible refunds.
