How to recall a SEPA transfer or check its status

With a payment investigation, you can clarify the status of an outgoing SEPA transfer or request a recall of your transfer. Note: only the sender's bank can make a payment investigation. If you want to clarify the status of an incoming bank transfer, the sender will have to request a payment investigation from their bank.

Once you’ve confirmed a transfer with your confirmation PIN, a payment investigation is the only way for us to confirm the status of the payment or try to recall it.

It’s important to know that the outcome of payment investigations depends on the recipient’s bank and may take up to 15 business days. However, rest assured that we'll be in touch with you as soon as there are any updates.

Checking the status of my transfer

If you just want to clarify the status of your transfer, please request a payment investigation for a confirmation of receipt. We'll contact the recipient’s bank for a credit confirmation, which includes the date, the amount, and the transaction ID. If the transfer wasn’t successful, the recipient’s bank will confirm the status of the payment and inform N26 if a return of funds has been initiated.

Requesting a transfer recall

If you want to recall your bank transfer because you entered the wrong recipient, sent the wrong amount, or suspect to be a victim of fraud/scam, please request a payment investigation for a transfer recall. Bear in mind that we can’t guarantee that the return of funds will be successful as this depends on the recipient and their bank.

Once you've decided what you need, reach out to us via Live Chat to initiate the investigation.

Fees

  • All payment investigations come with a fee of €15 per transfer. We charge the fee as soon as we start the investigation.
  • We’ll charge it from the account that you used to make the transfer. Please make sure you have sufficient funds in the appropriate account.
  • We can only investigate one payment per investigation. If you want to investigate multiple payments, you’ll need to request multiple payment investigations.
  • Please note, the receiver's bank might charge additional fees that can be charged from your account.
  • Investigation fees can’t be refunded for ongoing or completed investigations. However, if the outcome indicates the mistake was made by N26, we'll reimburse you for the € 15 fee.
