How to make N26 my main account?

We can help you make N26 your primary bank account by transferring your recurring direct debits and incoming transfers from another bank.

Important: N26 does not set up standing orders automatically. Your standing orders on your old account will be cancelled from the date you choose in your mandate, so please set them up manually in your N26 app before that date to avoid any missed payment.

Account switching service powered by Smartpush

In partnership with Smartpush, N26 offers an automated and entirely free online platform to facilitate your bank switch.

Information you will need to provide:

To complete the migration, you will need to provide the following details to our partner:

  • Your N26 IBAN;
  • The IBAN and BIC of your previous bank (departure bank);
  • Your full legal name, date and place of birth, legal address, phone number, and email.
  • Your preferred migration timeline and whether you want to close your old account (optional). If you request closure, your positive balance will be transferred to your N26 account and your old account closed on the date you choose (at least 30 days after signing your mandate). If you keep your old account open, make sure it remains sufficiently funded: any payment presented on an underfunded account may be rejected, and a rejected cheque may lead to a ban on issuing cheques.

In the N26 app:

  • Log in and go to the Home tab;
  • Select your initials, then tap Set N26 as primary bank
  • Tap Continue and follow the instructions to sign your mandate.

Timeline

In accordance with regulations, the process follows these specific deadlines:

  • Day 0: Mandate signed by the customer.
  • Within 2 business days: N26 requests your 13-month transaction history from your old bank.
  • Within 5 business days: Your old bank transmits this history to N26.
  • Within 5 business days: N26 notifies your creditors and debtors of your new bank details (IBAN).
  • Within 10 business days: Your payment partners update their records and inform you of the effective switch date.

After signing your mandate, you will receive an email with your login details to track your request on the Smartpush Tracking Portal, where you can see your direct debits, standing orders and recurring transfers. Once your creditors and debtors have been notified, please check that the list of switched operations is complete and inform any missing payment partner yourself.
