What is Buying Power in N26 Stocks & ETFs?
What is Buying Power?
Buying Power is the amount you can use to reinvest in stocks or ETFs after selling assets in your N26 investment portfolio. When you sell stocks or ETFs, the proceeds from the sale aren't immediately available in your main account. Instead, it usually takes 2–3 business days for the funds to settle and be credited to your main account.
To make reinvesting easier, N26 allows you to use the proceeds from a recent sale — your Buying Power — to purchase new stocks or ETFs before the funds have fully settled. You can reinvest this amount, but you can't withdraw it or transfer it to your main account until the settlement is complete.
In short:
- You can use Buying Power to buy new stocks or ETFs while waiting for your previous sale to settle.
- You can't withdraw Buying Power to your main account until the settlement is finished.
How does Buying Power work?
- When you sell an asset, the amount from the sale becomes your Buying Power.
- If you buy another asset before the sale settles, the Buying Power is used for the new purchase.
- If your Buying Power is less than the amount you want to invest, the difference will be debited from your main account.
- If your Buying Power is more than the amount you want to invest, the remaining amount stays as Buying Power until the original sale settles.
- Once the settlement is complete, any unused Buying Power is credited to your main account.
Examples
Example 1:
You sell €100 of Stock A. The €100 becomes your buying power.
You buy €80 of Stock B before the sale settles.
- €80 is covered by Buying Power.
- €20 remains as Buying Power until the sale settles. If unused, the remaining amount will be credited to your main account.
Example 2:
You sell €50 of Stock A.
You buy €70 of Stock B before the sale settles.
- €50 is covered by Buying Power.
- €20 is debited from your main account.
Example 3:
You sell €100 of Stock A.
You don't make any new purchases before the sale settles.
- After 2–3 business days, the amount of €100 is credited to your main account.
Where can I see my Buying Power?
You can view your Buying Power in the N26 app under your Stocks & ETFs portfolio. It'll be displayed as an available amount for reinvestment after you sell an asset.
Why can’t I withdraw my Buying Power?
Buying Power is only available for reinvestment until the sale of your asset is fully settled. This is due to standard settlement times in financial markets. Once the settlement is complete, the money will be available in your main account for withdrawal or other use.
What if my Buying Power isn't credited after 3 business days?
If your Buying Power isn't credited to your main account more than 3 business days after your sale, please contact us for assistance.
