Frequently Asked Questions

"How long does it take to transfer funds?"

If you are transferring money from your external account to your N26 account via the N26 application, the transfer will complete approximately 5 business days from the date you initiated the transaction. Please note that federal and bank holidays may extend the transfer time. You can find out more about how these holidays affect transfers in our article on Direct Deposit.

"What if my bank is not shown as an option on the website, how do I link to it?"

If your bank is not shown on the list, you can do a manual search for it by simply entering your bank’s name, e.g. Bank of America, in the search field.

"My bank still did not show up even after a manual search.  What do I do next?"

If your bank still does not show up even after a manual search, then your bank may not be supported currently.

"What are the fees associated with transferring money through this method?"

We do not charge a fee for this service.

"Do I have to transfer in whole dollars?"

No. You can transfer in dollars and cents.

"Does the account have to be in my name?"

Yes. All the accounts that you link must be owned by you and under the same name as your N26 account.

"What accounts can I link?"

You can link US checking and savings accounts (business accounts may not be linked) to your main N26 account (you cannot link to Spaces). The accounts must be US accounts owned by you and under the same name as your N26 account. In addition, you must be registered for online banking with the external bank.

"How many accounts can I link?"

There is no limit to the number of accounts that you can link, as long as the accounts are US checking and savings accounts (business accounts may not be linked) owned by you and under the same name as your N26 account. In addition, you must be registered for online banking with the external bank.

"Can I cancel pending transfers?"

Unfortunately, you cannot cancel pending transfers.  You can cancel a transfer at any time before you confirm the transaction. Once the transfer is confirmed, you can no longer cancel it.

"Can I use this feature to send money to my external account?"

No, you may only use this feature to transfer funds into your N26 account, not to transfer funds out of your N26 account.

"My external account is owned by me, but I am still unable to link it to my N26 account."

Even though you own the external account, your attempt to link may have failed because the external account needs to be a US bank account and needs to be in your name (i.e. the same name you used to open your N26 account).

"Where can I see the status of pending, successful, and failed transfers? "

Unfortunately, you will not be able to see pending transfers. It takes approximately 5 business days for a transfer to settle and for the transferred funds to be available in your N26 account. Once the transfer is successful, you will see it in your N26 transaction feed. You will also receive push notifications for successful or unsuccessful transfers.

"It appears that my transfer has failed - what does that mean?"

This means the funds did not successfully transfer. You should check your email for the failure reason and reattempt the transfer.

"Do I need to link my external account every time I make a transfer?"

You do not have to link to your external bank account more than once.  You may, however, need to re-enter your external account credentials occasionally due to either a change in those credentials or for security reasons.
