Why do I need to update my personal information?

As a bank, we are required by law to keep your personal information current. This helps us follow European regulations on preventing money laundering and financial crime. By reviewing your details periodically, we can make sure your account stays secure and meets all legal standards.

Update your details

When it is time for a review, you will see an invitation in your N26 app. This process is mandatory for all customers and only takes a few minutes. Updating your details is only possible in the N26 app. Before you begin, update your app to the latest version.

What information do I need to review?

We’ll ask you to check several categories of information — personal data, tax information, and address. If your details haven’t changed, you can just confirm that they’re still correct. If you need help changing your info, you can read either of these articles:

What is the due diligence questionnaire?

Anti-money laundering laws require us to collect regular updates on how you use your account. This is a routine check known as “Know your customer” (KYC). We’ll ask you to answer a few questions about:

  • Your wealth and current job
  • The origin of the funds in your account
  • Your net income and how you plan to use your N26 account

We’ll review the data you enter and may contact you later if we need more details. You can always check for updates in your Messages from N26 inbox by selecting your initials, and then ‘Support Center’ in your app.

Update an expiring ID

If we see that your ID document is about to expire, we’ll ask you to submit a new one. You must use your pair smartphone to take photos of your original, valid ID. To make sure your ID is accepted:

  • Remove plastic covers: Take the ID out of any sleeve or wallet.
  • Make sure all info is visible: This includes any holograms and security features. For best results, take photos near a window with natural light.
  • Keep the frame clear: Make sure your fingers aren’t blocking any text and that the ID fits perfectly inside the on-screen frame.
  • Use original documents: We can’t accept photocopies, scans, or screenshots.

What happens if I don’t update my details?

We ask that you complete the review as soon as possible so you can keep full access to your N26 account.

  • Account restrictions: If you don’t provide the requested info within 60 days, we’ll have to temporarily restrict your account from receiving incoming payments, such as your salary
  • Account closure: If your information isn’t updated within a reasonable time, we’ll be legally required to end our contract with you and close your account.

Privacy and data protection

We only process this information to follow the law. We store your data only as long as necessary to meet these legal obligations, after which it’s deleted. You can find more details in our ‘Privacy Policy’
