How to block a Direct Debit?

Blocking a direct debit from the app

You can block a Direct Debit mandate directly in your N26 app.

  • First make sure that you have the latest version of our app, and then find the direct debit you wish to block. You can find it in your transactions list, or under the “Scheduled” section.
  • Select the direct debit you wish to block, and then “Block Direct Debit”. You'll then need to confirm the block, and that’s it.
  • The Direct Debit will be blocked based on its mandate ID.

Note: this action doesn’t cancel your subscription nor any contract with a creditor company. If you’re unsure about your contract obligations, we suggest that you contact the creditor to avoid any issues with unsettled payments.

To unblock the direct debit, select again the transaction you previously blocked and go to “Unblock Direct Debit”.

Using a form to block a direct debit

If you prefer, or if you cannot see the Direct Debit in the app just yet, you can fill in our Direct Debit block form and our Customer Service team will take care of the block for you. Keep in mind that this route can take several business days.

  1. Please download and complete this form.
  2. Fill the form and specify what you want to block e.g. Creditor ID, Mandate Reference or full block. You can already find some of this information in previous Direct Debits from the same merchant within your transaction list.
  3. Make sure to include a signature (handwritten, e-signature or digital signature).
  4. Once you have completed the form, please send it to support@n26.com from your registered email address and our specialists will process your request and get back to you as soon as possible.

Finally, it is important to note that cancelling a direct debit only stops payments, it won't cancel the contract you have with a merchant.

Before sending us the form to block a direct debit, please note the following:

  • Creditor ID and Mandate Reference: You will need to specify both the creditor ID and Mandate Reference. You can find this information in the transaction details of the previous direct debit in the app or by contacting the merchant (please note, IBAN and merchant name is not sufficient).
  • Attachments less than 25MB: When you reply with the necessary form, please make sure that the total sum of your attachments don't exceed 25MB.
  • Document signature: If you can, it is best to hand sign the form you send to us. However, we can also accept:
    • E-Signature: Needs to match the document you used to open your N26 account.
    • Digital Signature: If you have a digital signature on the document that can be verified by us, then the signature is considered valid. Digital signatures can be created through providers such as “DocuSign”.

Please note: when an upcoming direct debit is going to be charged to your account, you'll receive a notification on top of your transaction list. Just click on it to see all the payment details, including Creditor ID and Mandate Reference.
