N26 SIM is N26's first non-core banking product, an eSIM mobile service. N26 SIM was specifically designed for customers who value maximum flexibility and attractive pricing. N26 SIM is being launched exclusively in Germany powered by Vodafone’s 5G network. It is initially only available to N26 customers with a personal account opened in Germany. Only local German plans are offered for now, with plans to expand to other markets gradually.

What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is an embedded Subscriber Identity Module. It's a digital SIM card that can be downloaded directly onto a device, allowing you to activate a mobile plan without needing a physical SIM card.
How can I get a N26 SIM?
Open the N26 app and head to My Account > N26 SIM. From there, you’ll be guided through the steps to choose and activate your mobile plan.
Please note that N26 SIM is only available to customers with a personal (not business) N26 account registered in Germany. Your phone must also support eSIMs, you can check device compatibility below.
Does my phone support eSIM?
It’s important to note that only newer devices support eSIM.
- For iOS, eSIMs are supported on all iPhone XS, XR, and more recent models running iOS 15 or above.
- For Android devices running Android 10 or above, you need to check with your smartphone manufacturer.
You can also check this link (new tab) provided by our partner, 1GLOBAL. If your phone doesn't support eSIM, you cannot get an N26 SIM. Also, ensure your device has not reached its maximum limit of installed eSIMs.
What plans are available?
N26 SIM allows N26 customers with a personal account opened in Germany to purchase a German mobile phone plan. Only local German plans are offered for now, with plans to expand to other markets gradually.
There are 3 plan options, which include unlimited national calls, and text messages, as well as free EU and EEA roaming. As per EU regulation, fair use policies for calls and SMS apply. It’s a fully-fledged mobile contract, including a telephone number which is billed as a recurring monthly subscription directly from the customer’s N26 account. There are 3 different packages customers can choose from:
- Small plan: 10 GB for 13.99 € per month
- Medium plan: 30 GB for 19.99 € per month
- Large plan: 100 GB for 34.99 € per month
On top of the plan choice, N26 SIM customers can also choose between porting in an existing phone number, or getting a new number provided by N26. For maximum flexibility, customers will also have the ability to cancel their plan with a month’s notice, doing away with long fixed-term contracts and binding commitments.
Can I keep my current phone number and use it with N26 SIM (Port-in)?
Yes, you can bring your existing number to N26 SIM.
Step 1: Request transfer approval from your current provider
- Before starting the process in the N26 app, contact your current mobile provider and ask them to approve the number transfer (also known as "opting in").
Step 2: Start the transfer in the N26 app
- After purchasing your N26 SIM, open the N26 app and go to "N26 SIM". Select "Bring your number to N26" to begin the transfer.
Step 3: Track your transfer
- Once submitted, you’ll see the transfer status directly in the app.
Can I use my N26 SIM phone number with another provider (Port-out)?
Yes, you can transfer your N26 SIM number to a different provider, but only after cancelling your N26 SIM plan.
Step 1: Cancel your N26 SIM plan
- You must first cancel your current N26 SIM plan through the app. A 30-day cancellation period applies.
Step 2: Initiate the number transfer
- Once cancellation is confirmed, you'll be guided through the process to release your number for transfer. You can start this directly from the N26 app.
Step 3: Transfer date
- The number transfer (also known as “port-out”) will be scheduled once the cancellation is in progress. Your number remains active until the transfer is completed.
Can I have multiple active N26 SIM plans?
Currently, you can only have one active N26 SIM plan per customer. A combination of multiple N26 SIM plans is not possible.
Is there a PIN for my N26 SIM?
By default, there is no PIN for an N26 SIM. You can set one up in your phone’s SIM settings if you wish.
Will I be charged extra if I am abroad (Roaming)?
Within the EU, you can use your N26 SIM data package, SMS, and call flat rate as agreed in your contract at no extra cost. When travelling outside the EU, additional charges may apply. You can find a detailed breakdown of potential costs in the full price list included in your N26 SIM contract, which you received upon signing up and can access in your N26 app under "My Account" > "Support Center" > "Messages from N26". Ensure roaming is enabled on your device settings when needed.
Are there any limits on usage?
Yes, there is a cap of 1,000 SMS messages, 15,000 call minutes per month and €200 international out-of-bundle charges per month. This cap applies to all N26 SIM plans and also when roaming. If you reach the SMS or call minutes limit, you can still use any remaining data on your plan for communication via apps like WhatsApp.
How does billing work? When are fees charged and invoices sent?
Invoices are sent on the 5th of each month via your Secure Inbox (Messages from N26). You can find your invoices in the app under My Account > Support Center > Messages from N26. Fees are charged on the 1st of each month for the previous month. The billing date and period cannot be changed at the moment. If you don't have enough funds on the 1st and no active overdraft, the fee will still be charged, resulting in a negative balance, and standard overdraft fees may apply.
Can I change between plans?
Currently, it is not possible to change between N26 SIM plans directly. To upgrade or downgrade your plan, you need to cancel your current plan and subscribe again.
How do I cancel my N26 SIM plan?
You can cancel your eSIM plan directly in the N26 app. Go to My Account > N26 SIM > Settings > Cancel Plan. Your plan will end 30 days from the date of your cancellation request. You can continue using your plan until that date. You will receive the final invoice on the 5th of the following month, with one last fee happening on the 1st. First and last months are charged pro rata. If you cancel, you have 90 days to renew the plan or port your number to another provider from the day your N26 SIM ends.
What happens to my N26 SIM plan if I close my N26 bank account?
Your N26 SIM plan is linked to your N26 bank account. You cannot keep your N26 SIM if you close your N26 account. If you wish to close your bank account, you should first cancel your N26 SIM plan. You can request to port your N26 phone number out to a different mobile provider if you want to keep your number.
